Steve Stricker still can be a part of the US Ryder team

The US captain Tom Watson this week named a six member squad for the Ryder cup this year. The Ryder cup is all set to begin from September this month and will see the US and the European team fight for the ultimate glory. The current six member squad of US has some injury concerns and that is one of the biggest concerns for Watson. There are speculations on many players in the top 6 suffering from injury. Despite of the injuries the players have been selected for the championship. A team must have in total top 9 players in the squad and currently only 6 have been selected keeping a place for more 3. Watson holds the right of choosing the remaining 3 members for the squad as the wild cards. Steve Stricker was named as the third assistant captain of the team along with Watson this week.

Stricker was made the third deputy captain a week ago and it has all the chances of been selected as the wild card entry to the US team for Ryder cup. Steve deserves to be selected for the team as his current performance in the PGA championship is remarkable. He currently is 5 points beyond the leader Rory Mcllroy. The 47 year old Stricker has made all the progress in the three rounds and beaten almost all his rivals in the championship. His performance has been a noticeable one and if now his captain avoids him in selection as a wild card then for sure Steve may never get a call for the Ryder’s cup. The positive point that will work for Stricker is that the Ryder’s Points gets doubled in the PGA week and this can easily help him qualify for the Ryder’s team because of his great form.

Matt Kuchar withdraw from the PGA to increase Watson’s problems

Tom Watson was named as the captain to lead the US squad in this year’s Ryder’s cup in Scotland starting in this month of September. The moment he was selected as the captain of the squad a series of problems came down on him. The list of problems is increasing everyday as by every passing moment a new player is reported injured. The current squad announced in the previous week had only 6 players in the team and the last 3 were to be announced on 2nd September. These 3 players that will be selected will be selected by the captain using his rights. With all the speculations the final decision will be taken after the PGA championship tour.

The biggest disappointment came at the start of the PGA at Valhalla, when Matt Kuchar pulled out of the championship. His decision of pulling out from the championship came in the last moment and it was surprise for many. Apart from a surprise it was a shock for the US team captain as it raised more problems for him. Previously Kuchar withdrew from the last stage of the WGC- Bridgestone. After his withdrawal he practised and seemed to be fit from the back injury but his sudden withdrawal took Watson with a surprise and it raised an alarm in the US camp. Though there was good news as Tiger Woods reportedly was fit and was playing in the PGA tour. This was a great sigh of relief for team US but again Woods is out of practise and it will be a tough task for the team if Kuchar stays unfit for the Ryders cup and withdraws from it even. This will surely be the last thing that the US captain will be hoping to face before the Ryder cup.

Jim Furyk signs sponsorship deal

Constellation Energy has made an announcement to the local media on Tuesday that it has come to an agreement over a three year sponsorship deal with American golfer Jim Furyk, a former champion at the US Open and the golfer has put pen to paper to the new deal after agreeing the terms. This new deal will see Furyk wear the logo of Constellation Energy on his sleeves during any and every golf tournament he takes part in around the world. Moreover, he will also be the face of the company and will make appearances in the promotional materials of the company as well as the company events from now to the end of 2015.

However, the overall terms of the deal were not given in detail either by the company or by the representatives of the golfer who brokered the deal for the 42 year old. Constellation Energy is based in Baltimore, United States of America and is a wholly owned subsidiary group of the Exelon Corp. which is based in Chicago, Illinois. The deal that they have signed with Jim Furyk is ground breaking without a doubt and with the 42 year old being one of the most well known golfers on the circuit, a partnership with him will also earn them a lot of fame, if that is what they are looking for.

Jim Furyk won his first and so far, only major title when he won the US Open back in 2003, one of the four major championships in golf and was named as PGA Tour Player of the Year as well as the PGA Player of the Year in2010.

Constellation Energy also serves as the title sponsors of the PGA Senior Players’ Championship which will be held at the Fox Chapel Golf Course in 2013 and 2014.

Steve Stricker Drops Hint

While playing at Kapalua, Steve Stricker has told the reports that he would probably not come back the rest of the year, or in other words, a semi-retirement. He has decided to participate only in the majors and World Golf Championships being held at America. He is an earner of $25 million in PGA Tour and he has earned them all in six-year-long professional career. After making a comeback in the course really after he was shunted to the list of probable players who needed to make a comeback for consecutively two years, he does not wish to put any more focus on the golf all his life. As evident from his statements, he wants to give his family more time, fetching his kids to school and other things.

When already in a rank as number 2 according to the official world golf rankings, Steve Stricker had been thinking of signing off for good. But things were not easy back then, now that he has buckled up to face his decision with full determination, he is quite light-weighed right now. It is not that this decision has taken shape due to drought in his victory throughout his career, he had loads of win and won the Tournament of Champions only last year that marked the 12th win in his professional career, it is just that he never wanted to be a golf devotee.

Steve Stricker will not be facing the top four players at Kapalua namely Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Luke Donald and Justin Rose because they are not attending the same. After the Kapalua, he will be engaging himself in a bit of philanthropy with American Family Insurance aimed at lending out a helping hand to the adolescents. He will donate the award money received from Payne Stewart Award and playing on the Ryder Cup team.

Tiger Woods gets his 8th win

Tiger Woods was in such good form at Torrey Pines for so long that it did not even matter that how bad it wnet at the end. It was an incredible end to an exasperating and long week, with Tiger having built an 8-shot lead with 5 holes to play till he lost his patience with slow play and begun losing strokes.

In spite of 2 bogeys and a double bogey, he finished with an even-par seventy two for a 4-shot win in Farmers Insurance Open.

After that game, Woods said that he is excited the way he played throughout week. He hit the ball quite well, did everything right and made himself a good little cushion. There were some mistake at the end, but his good plays earlier allowed him to afford those failures.

Tiger was odds on to win the tournament, according to online betting firm Unitbet, who have the latest odds here).

In his PGA career, he grabbed the title for the seventy fifth time, 7 behind the record that is held by Sam Snead. Tiger won this event for the 7th time, and held a PGA Tour record by snatching a win at Torrey Pines for 8th time, including US Open in the year 2008.

Golfer Nick Watney, who got within 5 shots of Tiger, said that he did not know whether anyone would have defeated him this week.

Kuchar and Michael Phelps share in mutual admiration

Michael Phelps, who snatched his 22nd Olympic medal this year, caught the eye of some eager eyes as he donned a golf gear instead of his swim-wear at the pro-am golf tournament that took place in China. He also attracted some golf players.

When some players spend long time to perfect their game, the Olympic champion seems to have all the needed skills to be a professional golfer. He learnt golf from Hank Haney, the coach of Tiger Woods.

The Olympic told that he had scope to speak with Matt Kuchar coming down to the seventeenth and they talked about it. Matt told him that Michael has a smooth and good swing. For the Olympic, it is all about learning how to hit the right shot at a perfect time and getting muscle memory. Michael Phelps added that he would see a lot more results when he will spend a lot of time in the range.

But Michael’s new found love have not kept him out of the water for very long as the Olympic champion took some time to teach swimming to his fellow US golfer Matt Kuchar’s kids at the Mission Hills Resort located at an tropical island Hainan.

In the Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am event, Michael was joined by several other acting and sporting legends like Darren Clarke, Pat Cash, Stephen Hendry, Ronaldo, Yao Ming, Minka Kelly, Adrien Brody, Ryan Reynolds and Andy Garcia.

Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter are favorites

There is always a golf event waiting for those who always want to bet during a PGA Tour event, even when the season is not in progress. This weekend notes the Franklin Templeton Shootout 2012. The Las Vegas PGA Tour betting experts of Las Vegas’ GolfOdds.com unfolded the team of Ian Poulter and Dustin Johnson as the 3/1 favorites. Even Adam Scott has been unfolded as 3/1 favorite to clinch the Emirates Australian Open title.

In a statement, Greg Norman, the host of the Shootout Tournament, told that once again, the balance of these golfers both a team as well as an individual is really excellent. He added that the event will really be an exciting one both for TV viewers and for fans. Most of these players showed their enthusiasm regarding who they are paired with and in fact they have also showed an enthusiasm regarding the whole field. Keegan Bradley, the defending champ, and Brendan Steele were 11/2 with Rickie Fowler and Bud Cauley; and Vijay Singh and Jason Dufner.

The Shootout of this year will have an interesting twist as 2 teams will be defending their title. A year ago, the team of Brendan Steele and Keegan Bradley won the title. More than that, the team of Ian Poulter and Dustin Johnson is back in the schedule. Last, they could not defend their title because of date issues. The defending champs will now look for to win consecutive titles – something that has not happened since 2004.

Ryder Cup Victory an Inspiration

36-year-old English golfer Ian Poulter says that the victory at the Ryder Cup has helped him to boost up his winning spree that helped him bag the WGC-HSBC Championship very recently. The other week, he had made his way to the fourth position at BMW Masters which was followed by the gigantic win of his life this year, the WGC-HSBC Championship where he blew a seven-under-par 65 shot and amazed everyone.

The golfer is now at Mission hills in Dongguan, southern China prepared to give his best at the upcoming tournament after his glorious victory at the two World Golf championships that has made him $ 1.2 million richer than what he was. He had also won the 2010 WGC-Accenture Match Play championship. However, Ian Poulter is still not quite complacent with the recently ended performance and does not feel the ‘Ryder blaze’. He is now concentrating on the upcoming Major because he feels that a pedigree and career of a golfer is judged on the basis of how many Majors does he/she have to his/her name. He aims to give his best shot there and hopes that the Ryder blaze is going to provide him with that required impetus.

Ian Poulter has recently bought another vehicle with the money that he won last week, an amount of $345000. Improvement of performance for the next year seasons is also one of the aims in his list. This year has been a successful and worthwhile year for him. He has finished at the top ten of all the biggest c=golf championships which includes Masters, British Open and PGA Championship.

The fans too are now looking forward to seeing an even better avatar of Ian Poulter at the upcoming Major Tournament this year.

Dufner, an interesting golfer behind his serious facade

Bogeys and birdies do not seem to affect Jason Dufner. It seems that these two neither worry nor excite this man. Dufner is one of the best golfers in the world and his expertise in ball striking has brought him to become a favorite in the U.S. Open. Duf’s attitude arouses numerous comments from the crowd, but nothing seems to affect his stern expression. Duf says that it is just golf so he is not too worried at all about that.

You may not believe that with Dufner’s curt manner, he was able to tear up the PGA Tour. He is smart and rational and always seeks improvement. This is how he prepares his game and part of that preparation is to sit silently and replay rounds in his mind – he often pictures possible result of a certain shot. Even during the Dallas tournament, while he was playing, he talked to Lee Trevino, the two-time U.S. Open winner, to seek advice.

He believes that in order to succeed, he has to do many different things and be mentally strong. He has to prepare smarter and harder, and to make the most of his talent and everything that he possess. He has to be unique, like do the things in a way other guys do not; and though being honest to oneself is quite hard to do, he thinks he should do it.

Dufner was both a baseball and basketball player who did not take golf seriously until he was about 15 years old. According to Dufner, some people are motivated by the need to succeed, by money, and by fear of disappointment or failure. But for him, his feeling of being an underdog is what keeps him going.

The Duf admires Hogan, Scott Verplank, David Toms, Jeff Maggert, and Bob Estes. According to Dufner, these Tour pros or his golf heroes have learned to make the most of their gifts.
